Hana Puchová – Places

Petr Novotný Gallery Heřmanova 35/743, 170 00, Prague – Holešovice

It can be said of both the exhibitions and the paintings of Hana Puchová themselves that they mostly never surprise us, yet they always delight. This is because for many years the artist has been developing and branching out her two main series of paintings. These are, on one hand, figurative works depicting her acquaintances and friends, often well-known figures from the Ostrava cultural scene. And then there are smaller and larger still lifes, mostly with dominant flowers and other trifles of everyday life. Both of these lines stem from traditional painting and are at once lyrical and raw, with a subtle stylization. They are based on ordinariness, the mundane, and that which the painter lives with and among. At this exhibition, the long-term cycle of figurative paintings is replaced by a newly emerging series in which the painter captures various places and spaces where she frequently spends time. The entire exhibition is named after it. The exhibition is then complemented by her charming still lifes with flowers and small objects.

The artist herself states about the exhibition: "My long-term theme is specific situations, people, and things around me. I like to record those situations, to look at people, myself included, in different spaces, and I have an urge to record all those places, all those encounters, and thus freeze them in time."
