The central axis of Jiří Černický's exhibition consists of an extensive collection of drawings through which the author explores, interprets, and contextualizes themes representing key issues that shape both the connections and contradictions of the contemporary world. Černický views these conceptual drawings as study plans that encompass both the research phase and proposals for addressing the issues under investigation. Often, these proposed solutions are realized in the form of sculptural objects or monumental installations, some of which serve as focal points of the current exhibition at Galerie Lázně.
In his drawings, objects, and installations, Černický explores the possibilities and limits of progress. However, he views this phenomenon critically and with a certain detachment, combining an effort towards innovation and progressiveness with aspects of utopia, mystery, magic, and humor. In his work, progress is inherently linked to a Dadaist disruption of logic and rationality. The space of Jiří Černický's exhibition can be understood as an open laboratory or research station that provides a background for knowledge and wonder, skepticism and euphoria, sadness and joy, the verification of hypotheses and their subversion, and for seeing the familiar in a different way, and seeing us from elsewhere.
