Jiří Černický’s solo exhibition, entitled Optimism at the End of an Epoch, is a metaphorical probe into the unique mindset of this visual artist.
The concept of the exhibition is structured as an iconographic unveiling of several historical epochs and a plurality of represented media, ranging from drawings and paintings to sculptures. Jiří Černický’s underlying strategy is a return to a modernist conception of art, a high degree of activism, and a departure from aestheticism and objectivity.
The artist's work bears the marks of experimentation and is often filled with satirical humor. Here, we present the viewer with an imaginary endoscope into the intricate labyrinth of Černický’s imagination.
