Currently, Tomáš Predka (1986) is a respected representative of formal non-objective painting on the Czech scene, whose qualities gradually develop through a process of intensive visual thinking. As earlier works demonstrate, while his paintings sometimes loosely reflect external stimuli, even in such cases he avoids concreteness. He directs his attention toward an open-ended principle that also possesses symbolic potential, such as light. Recently, however, he has increasingly focused primarily on events within the pictorial space, so that the subject of his painting becomes painting itself and, along with it, its visual transformation.
