Frogs - ORIGINAL

Alena Anderlová is one of the prominent representatives of contemporary Czech figurative painting. The painting Frogs captures figures in various stages of a human's transformation into an animal – or perhaps vice versa. With subtle humor, the artist blurs the boundaries between human and animal bodies.

About the work

Alena Anderlová for 100 pcs

The painting Frogs, selected for the 100ks platform, captures figures in various stages of transformation against a dark blue field. Human bodies are gradually turning into frogs – or is it the other way around? The outstretched limbs
resemble swimming, a sports warm-up, and a mysterious ritual in which each figure repeats a similar movement in a slightly different way. The regular grid can evoke a diagram in a natural history atlas, an ornamental
composition, or a psychedelic pattern. Here, Anderlová humorously combines the human and animal body, capturing the moment when familiar categories begin to dissolve.
