Flying Dreams

Ester Knapová is one of the most prominent painters of her generation. Flying dreams are a leap into a haystack, the scent of summer and carefree childhood. A painting that gave its name to her entire first solo German exhibition.

Profile

Ester Knapová

Academy of Fine Arts Prague, Vladimír Skrepl's studio

About the work

Ester Knapová for 100 pcs

The painting Flying Dreams, which gave its name to the exhibition in Cologne, is based on a personal childhood photograph where we are jumping into a haystack in a meadow at the cottage. The meadow was bordered by a forest at the top and sloped gently downwards, so you could pick up quite a bit of speed and fly headfirst into the fragrant grass.

Repeated returns to the places of my childhood are a fundamental theme for me and essentially mimic the mechanism of dreams, in which the same places also return throughout one’s life, only with different meanings, moods, and contexts.
