Born 18. 8. In 1974-78 he studied at the Secondary School of Arts in Bratislava and in 1981-87 at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, in the studio of the restoration of painting under the leadership of doc. I. Meszárošová, Akad. Mal., and the head of the teacher of the thesis, the professional assistant Vladimír Úradníček, acad. Mal. Since 1983 he has been devoted to painting and graphics. In the academic year 1990-91 he was a scholarshipist of the Herder Award at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, in the studio of prof. Arnulf Rainer. From 1990 to 2023 he worked at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where he led the painting studio at the Department of Painting as a professor. He devotes himself to painting and graphics. In earlier years he also devoted himself to graphic design and music - he has released several albums. His painting has undergone several phases and is documented in detail in three monographs dedicated to early creation, drawing and graphics, and later painting work. In public he presented his work with numerous independent exhibitions and author's presentations. Since 1985 he has made over 70 independent exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in Slovakia, in the Czech Republic and abroad.

His painting beginnings and early works ranked into the category of postmodernism, whose start in Slovakia took place in the second half of the 1980s. This period is connected in the then context with events throughout Czechoslovakia. For its generation, the designation "new wild" from the German "Neue Wilde" is often used, which was a designation for the German painters of the young generation. These designations remained and his generation, although his work has undergone many changes. Expressivity, which was expressed by figures and massive structures in the early days, was replaced in the 90s in the 90s, to a small, even geometric character structure, implemented as a surface installation. The middle period of his creation was characterized by the combination of two elements: blanket geometry and figures. The most characteristic element of his work at the turn of the millennium and later is layering. For the painter, layering has become an author's feature, which helps, among other things, to make the composition and better readability of the content. This content is based on an existential foundation and consists of memories of the old worlds expressed in archival materials and geometric shapes that assist in the creation of depth and space behind the displayed scene. The work is carried out in cycles, which ensures productivity and multiple, based on a series of combinations.

Ivan Csudai for 100pcs

He is one of the latest representatives of the branched family of paintings with the theme of Teddy-Bär, known in the work of Ivan Csudai after the mid-90s. Although the "fall" as a topic appears in earlier works from the 1980s, here the main figure of the theme is represented by a symbolic figure, generally known as a plush bear. Here it becomes a very specific interpretation of this figure in the design of drawing in vectors. "Fall" is also a strong symbolic theme and parallel to the inner state of floating or losing. In this variation created by layering elements of the composition, this is an ideal option and also an opportunity to hide depth on the surface - a key, large topic for creating several previous decades. At the same time, it is also about working with the sorting of compositional elements in terms of importance and thus about achieving a sense of movement or unstable state in relationships between them.
