A leading Czech painter presents a painting characterized by a graphically structured composition and a distinct emphasis on line. The artist combines drawing with spray paint and stencils, creating a contrast between precisely defined shapes and looser, bled-out areas.

Profile

Jakub Tytykalo

Jakub Tytykalo (nar. 1984), absolvoval v l. 2008 – 2014 AVU v Praze (Ateliér Grafika I, Škola prof. Jiřího Lindovského; Ateliér Kresby, Škola Jiřího Petrboka; Ateliér Socha I, Škola Jaroslava Róny).

About the work

Jakub Tytykalo for 100 pcs

Tytykala's painting moves on the boundary between formal indeterminacy and recognizable motifs, without leaning decisively toward pure abstraction or descriptiveness. Objects and figures in his paintings acquire a strange inner gravity, reinforced by a specific handling of color that carries echoes of a dreamlike and slightly archaic visual language. These qualities subtly allude to the tradition of Southern European imaginative painting without directly quoting it.

The artist's work features fragments of bodies, still lifes, landscape motifs, and contemporary urban situations. Their composition is economical, based on the layering of shapes and a muted palette that recalls the analytical methods of early modernism. Unlike the rational deconstruction of reality, however, Tytykala does not strive to analyze the visible world—his paintings emerge more as mental constructions, where matter serves imagination and mood.

Combining acrylic painting with spray paint allows him to bridge painterly tradition with the expressive lightness and exaggeration of the contemporary visual environment, in which galleries and the streets naturally intermingle.
