Profile

Julia Medyńska

Born in 1981 in Gdansk. Painter and actress. As a little girl with her family in 1985, after escaping from Poland, she moved to West Berlin. After graduation, she went to New York to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute and The Neighborhood Playhouse Theater School. In 2009 she began studying at Columbia University, where she won a bachelor's degree in visual art in 2013, and then started her painting at the prestigious Columbia University School of the Arts. She completed them in 2017 with the title of Fine Arts. She was the Elizabeth Greenshields three -day scholarshipist.

Painting is a kind of performance for her. The experience gained in the acting work, the theater and on the screen transmits to the screen. He builds the mood of the scenes using a dramatic gesture, light and color. He mixes with black humor, beauty and darkness connects into one. Its compositions are taken out of Baroque altar attachments; The lush still life, strange objects like the Curiosus cabinet… shows clear inspiration from the art of the old masters: Caravaggia, Rubens, Rembrandt, Artemischi Artemischi, but Julie's images retain individual and contemporary character.

About the work

Julia Medyńska for 100pcs

"Reference to a variety of fetishes, because balloons are not just balloons; behind specific objects are hidden unspoken symbols and excitement. Still is closed in stone frames of the window that form both real and symbolic. Safely hidden, or will they explode like a terrible fire in the sky? "
