Marek Meduna (1973) graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in the studios of Jiří David, Veronika Bromová, Michael Rittstein and Vladimír Skrepl. Currently, together with Petr Dub, the studio of painting IV. For many years he was a member of the Rafani art group. He presented his work on a number of independent and group exhibitions mainly in Central European space, for example in the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague, Fait Gallery in Brno, Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora, but also in art institutions in Krakow, Brussels or Zagreb. His work is part of Czech and foreign art collections.
The painting and intermediate work of Mark Meduna, one of the leading Czech artists of the middle generation, is fascinating how many forms. In style and meaning, it moves to such different levels that one often does not affect, that it is a work of one author. Yet there are some constants - for example, Mark's ability to achieve a completely realistic, sometimes even hyperrealistic depiction, through which the author, however, distorts his characters and objects in various ways and moves them into somewhat surreal empires. At other times, he completely "forgets" his skills and immerses in a relaxed, expressive and mostly abstract manuscript. Especially in his drawings, but also paintings, there is also a significant element of repetition with gradual changes in the rules - as if the parts, shapes, shapes and characters enter into different situations, infinitely generating each other. When you feel that you have guessed the principle (or perhaps an algorithm?), And knows how the story will evolve, there will be an unexpected change. Mark's approach is refreshing, thoughtful and experimental.

Marek Meduna for 100pcs
The work entitled The Recent Optics comes from a series of large -format paintings, which Marek Meduna presented at his last independent exhibition in the Klatovy Klenová Gallery. There are black silhouettes inspired by old clippings. They lead us to the author's childhood and his grandmother's books, and their motifs have also elaborated the Meduna motifs as part of his work in the art group Rafani. The image selected for the 100pcs platform lies a broken ancient amphora from which the smoke comes and shapes thick clouds. Next to the amphora, a pair of characters is displayed in the dynamic gesture. Are they children who broke something valuable, or did they cause a genie from a bottle? Will anyone get scolded from mom? Or did the characters depicted on the amphora managed to get tied up from millennial immobility and finally can live their own story?
