Moemi Yamamoto

Discovery of the Year, Czech Academy of Visual ArtsAcademy of Fine Arts Prague, Josef Bolf's studioGAVU Cheb

Moemi Yamamoto (*1985, Sapporo) je japonská malířka žijící a tvořící v Praze. Vystudovala uměleckou akademii Tóhoku v Japonsku, kde se malbě věnovala i v následujících letech.

V roce 2018 se rozhodla pro Evropu. Prahu si vybrala kvůli lásce k dílu Franze Kafky a zůstala. Naučila se česky a v roce 2022 absolvovala pražskou AVU v ateliéru Josefa Bolfa.

Její diplomová práce vyvolala okamžitý ohlas: kritika ji označila za jeden z největších talentů ročníku a Česká akademie vizuálního umění jí udělila cenu Objev roku.

About the work

Moemi Yamamoto for 100 pcs

Secret baths in the style of ancient Chinese palaces, which, according to Moemi Yamamoto, are located somewhere in this world. It is said that here, people can achieve enlightenment through total relaxation. And it is rumored that simply hanging this painting on a wall brings blessings of its own.

Yamamoto paints her dreams, and this one is a dream in its purest form. A figure like one from a Gothic illumination wanders through the palace baths, while the baths live their own quiet life around her: someone is swimming, lovers are embracing on a gallery, a model sailboat floats among the swimmers. The Japanese parallel perspective supports architecture that would not hold up in the real world, yet it feels completely natural. Time does not pass; everything happens simultaneously and without haste, like a dream one never wants to leave.
