A Memory Clothed in the Fabulous - ORIGINAL

Tomáš Jetela uses the dripping technique to allow a fragile, mysterious portrait to emerge from chaotic layers of paint. The character’s expression and gesture remain open to interpretation, which gives the painting a powerful atmosphere and a personal touch.

Tomáš Jetela už 15 let aktivně vystavuje v prestižních galeriích ČR a v Evropě (Londýn, Paříž).

About the work

Tomáš Jetela for 100 pcs

“The title refers to the painting’s origin in a ‘fairytale’ natural setting featuring a mysterious chapel in central France. In this instance, a cyclical form (reoccurring over many years) emerges, as does a method of working with paint—the dripping technique (associated primarily with Abstract Expressionism, or J. Pollock)—used here to capture a figure/portrait (‘unpredictable drawing with poured paint’). The girl in the painting, depicted multiple times due to her piercing expression intensified by the hand touching her, carries within her a secret, a mysterious gaze. Half-covered by a palm, the person shown reveals only a part of herself, leaving room for mystery and for possible interpretations of her thought processes, etc. All of this, moreover, is veiled by the ‘controlled accident’ of dripping.” - Tomáš Jetela
