Žofia Dubová (b. 1991) graduated from painting at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava (2010 - 2016, prof. (2018 - 2022). He is currently pedagogical at the Department of Drawing VŠVA, publishes and participates in international conferences.

Žofie Dubová is one of the few solitary personalities of young Slovak painting, whose work will attract at all times. Fragile and poetic, eye and conceptual, on the border of paintings, drawings and installations, developed in various media on a strong intellectual subsoil. The basis is the personal experience of the landscape and its artistic transformation into paintings. Oak undoubtedly innovates and cultivates the best of the tradition of reflexive and poetic landscape painting. He is not far from Zen's art - a timeless, existentially economical, aged carefully improved for sophisticated balancing on the link depicting and abstract.

Dubová has been a sought -after painter since student times, she has won a number of important awards in Slovakia for a young creator (Slovak Rector's Conference for Art 2020, Novum 2018 Prize, Painting of the Year 2017 - Place, etc.) has a lot of solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad.

Work: without name (Tatras), acrylic and dry pastel on canvas, 150 x 120 cm, 2023
Image - Solitaire without name (Tatras) is based on a photograph that was created during the descent from the Tatra Eastern high high in foggy weather. The peaks of the shields are not visible here, the rocks and the structure of the landscape coincide with the clouds into one atmospheric whole. The topographic grid of the remains of snow "levitating in space", which refer to a specific morphology of the seen landscapes is transferred into delicate drawing lace. Only a fragile drawing situated on an absolutely abstract background defines the space of the image and the material of nature. Not only the impressive record of your own feelings was created, but the viewer is forced to consider the interface between a specific and abstract, looking at the landscape and looking at the painting as such.

Žofia oak for 100pcs

I paint the landscapes most often, but what and how I paint is just as important to me and it goes hand in hand. Therefore, the images arise in different ways and I create some conditions for the creation of an image that is actually reflected at the end. This means that I move canvas on the tension frames, or spill the color differently, leaning. The process is not such that the image hangs on the wall, or stands on the stand and is formed just, but with various other approaches.

What I love in this painting is the mood and color and shift in the landscape to a slightly abstract format. That it seemed to be there the structure of the landscape, but it is not so realistic. I often work with snow remnants, or some rocks and background structure, which then creates the layers together.
