The media seem omniscient and all-seeing. We no longer perceive the world through our senses; we read it from screens. Facts are presented to us amplified, distorted, animated, rendered in great detail, shocking, and furnished with superlatives and exclamation marks. By comparison, reality seems grey, dull, and insufficient. We prefer illusions and the condensation, intensification, and highlighting of everything—horror, hatred, cruelty, violence, and manipulative dominance. The post-Tarantino world has reshuffled the deck. We choose our own versions of stories; we are drawn to or, conversely, avoid what is labeled: violence, sex, language+.
The exhibition project Violence+ announces the end of concepts regarding hyperreality, provided we understand it as an artistic interest in the media power of images. Everything is hyperreal now.
This group exhibition of representatives of contemporary hyperrealism will present Theodor Pištěk, Bedřich Dlouhý, Pavel Nešleha, Zdeněk Beran, Karel Balcar, Blanka Valchářová, Richard Štipl, Jan Mikulka, Jan Uldrych, Daniel Pitín, Jan Petrov, Zdeněk Daněk, Adolf Lachman, Leoš Suchan, and Michal Ožibko.
