Ivan Pinkava (*1961) studied at the Secondary School of Graphic Arts in Prague from 1977 to 1981 and subsequently studied Artistic Photography at FAMU. In 1989, along with several other photographers, he co-founded the Prague House of Photography (PHP), and from 2005 to 2007, he served as the head of the Photography studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM). Beyond Czech institutions, his work is represented in collections including the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, the Gernsheim Collection in Texas, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Kinsey Institute Art Collection in Bloomington, The Dali Photo Museum in China, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, and many others. In addition to solo exhibitions at prominent Czech institutions and galleries such as Galerie Rudolfinum, Fait Gallery in Brno, the House of Art in České Budějovice, and the Imperial Stables of Prague Castle, he has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions abroad—for example, at the Katzen Arts Center in Washington D.C., Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, Stimultania Gallery in Strasbourg, See+ Gallery in Beijing, Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo, and the Bill Brandt Room in London, among others.
