About the work

David Černý for 100 pcs

The pair of drawings selected for the 100ks platform dates back to the 1990s, yet it illustrates principles of Černý's work that remain valid today. Both drawings evoke preparatory sketches for monumental spatial realizations, whether fictitious or actually feasible – a distinction that, in Černý's concept, is often blurred. Anthropomorphic elements are present. The drawing Untitled II. suggests mobility, specifically rotation, much like many of his contemporary kinetic sculptures. Fragments of human bodies imaginatively revolve here within some sort of curious clock, while their heads transform into trunks weaving into a central tangle – a togetherness or perhaps a headless state, depending on one's perspective.
