Jiří Marek (born 1991), graduated in 2011 - 2017 AVU in Prague (Studio of Drawings, Jiří Petrbok School; Atelier of Painting I, School of Prof. Jiří Sopka.). Work: History Unfold, 2021, acrylic on canvas, 78.5 x 57 cm

Jiří Marek is one of the promising authors of the incoming painting generation born in the early 90s. His painting poetics is an introspective, subliminal deep and melancholic. It presents a widespread ground plan of interpersonal relations as a kind of "hallucination", as a "fragmented world" that must be patiently composed, defragmented, re -revive and cleaned. Similarly, it perceives the cultural legacy of the past, which must be transformed into a new feeling of present. Everything seemed to consist in a slowed movement, which only allows to observe and capture the ongoing author's internal transformation with which he works and which lends significant painting features (eg the image of History Unfold).

Jiří Marek for 100pcs

My approach to painting is on the edge between form and content. Because I am a perfectionist to a certain (or large) measure, I need me to entertain the form and its process and then the resulting image even after its completion. But it is not just about a purely rational approach, intuition is an essential part of the process. And together with chance they are a considerable aspect of the resulting image.

The image of History Unfold is a work from last year, which was exhibited in Prague's Chemistry Gallery. It is about some layering of time, continuations and connections, but also about the demise and disintegration or decomposition.
