Marek Ormandík (*1968) is one of the most prominent and internationally successful Slovak painters of his generation. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and, since the 1990s, has developed an instantly recognizable style—gestural expression, bold brushstrokes, and a distinct outline. He revisits grand themes, biblical and mythological motifs, but reworks them with irony and hyperbole.

He has held solo exhibitions in Paris, Zagreb, Vienna, and other European capitals. At home, his exhibitions are associated with the most significant institutions—he has exhibited repeatedly at the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, the Slovak National Museum, and the ZOYA Museum.

Four monographs about him have been published, most recently the elaborate publication Ormandík (Slovart, 2019). Among his most significant awards are the Crystal Wing (2010), the Martin Benka Award (2008), the Meulensteen Art Award (2007), and the Premio internazionale d'arte San Crispino in Italy (2009).

As an illustrator, he has collaborated long-term with Milan Lasica, Tomáš Janovic, and Pavel Vilikovský, and has also illustrated Dante’s Inferno and the verses of Omar Khayyam. He lives and works in Bratislava.

More about his work can be found on his Instagram or website marekormandik.eu.
