Marta Gruber (b. Work: Tree window, 2019, combined technique, 185 × 139 cm

Places that Marta Gruber choose for their paintings in nature are associated with immediate personal experiences. Repeated visits deepen the relationship to the locality, which becomes "known" and "inhabited". It is gradually viewed "under her surface". However, it is not a “tourist” cognition of the homeland, but much more about experiencing and complex feeling of certain places and situations, their constellations hides something very essential, what seems to be constitutional for the ways of painting self-reflection. The author often feels into the atmosphere of natural nooks with all its momentary dispositions (light, colorful, climatic, moisture), just as in the work of the tree window showing the interior of the winter forest with its intimacy.

Marta Gruber for 100pcs

My style is to say much experimental. I let myself be pulled by the process of painting. When I paint, I don't know what it will be. I have a basic idea, but then it captivates me so that sometimes I take an acrylic, sometimes I take pastels, cut it out in various ways, etc. You can get it to get back to the atmosphere it wants to express.

The image will take you to the Šumava forests during the winter and spring crossing, when there is still snow, but it is slowly melting. The trunks of the trees form the window frame. When you have a picture at home, you can look through this window into the space in the image, but still be safe. You have a winter at home, but you're warming on the couch.
