Pavel Šmíd (1964, Krnov) is a painter with a distinctive style that has long been on the Czech art scene. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with prof. Jiří Sopek and are among the co -founders of the art group Nature. In his work, he combines classical painting skill with a critical distance, often returns to motives of childhood, family memory or historical experience and examines how media, school teaching and everyday visual stereotypes form.

His images combine technical virtuosity with fine irony and analytical distance. Often, the character is a symbol of collective experience - but also a space where personal ideas and associations emerge. His works were repeatedly exhibited in prestigious galleries and institutions, including the National Gallery in Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the Regional Gallery in Liberec. It is also represented in important private collections, such as the collection of Robert Runták or Richard Adam Collection.

Pavel Šmíd for 100pcs

I tried to modify the act of the 19th century to the current painting - to transfer the historical figure to today's visual language. I was interested in placing the body in a neutral space where it is not clear whether it is an interior or an exterior. It is a connection of color and figure.
