Jakub Matuška, a graduate of the Painting Studio of Vladimír Skrepl at the Academy of Sciences of Prague and under the name of Masker, a former graffiti scene, has moved in a sovereign mature painter in recent years. The paintings often hides deep thoughts related to both individual life and social conflicts. Everyday events get a mythical form under the author's hand. Seemingly simple -looking scenes often contain complicated intersection of shapes that can turn the originally exposed meaning in its opposite. The small drawing sketches that the author records on the basis of his ideas are becoming a starting point for future paintings. They are many times enlarged without losing their original energy and atmosphere. Matuška's work is based on a peculiar technique combining spontaneity of the proprietary drawing, digital preparation on the iPad screen and the freedom of the painting itself. Its hobby of digital art successfully connects with the painting tradition of the old masters of the Gothic or Renaissance, as well as representatives of the avant -garde directions of the early 20th century. Jakub Matuška became the finalist of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2010, and a year later he won the 333 National Gallery in Prague. Today it has a number of independent and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, at the same time it is represented in a number of private collections.

Jakub Matuška for 100pcs

Jakub Matuška and his work try to modify the world into ideas that naturally come to his creative mind. His central themes include the fragility of human life, which is manifested in drawings and canvases by special twisted and garbage in combination with grotesque necessarily relieving often bitter and oppressive themes. The image of a man of wonderful shapes, according to which Matuškov's most extensive monograph was also named (published by DSC Gallery, 2023), raises a similar number of questions as Asian foods of wonderful tastes. It originated at a time when more Matušek's works responded to the period of the middle age crisis, when a man (transfer and artist himself) is beginning to realize his responsibility for the family and thus the end of the absolute freedom of his youth. A man of grotesquely caught -up shapes kneels in the image in the middle of the forest, from a single cloud in an otherwise blue sky, large rain drops fall on his head, and he with his gray, somewhat frightened face looking at his praying hands, where he grows two burning candles and colored characters. It is in the junk that a story takes place that scares the man so much. The story of his own family he has to take care of. And what is he praying for a man, kneeling on his flowering knees and black legs? For yourself, your family or the world?
