Julius Reichel (*1981) was born in chapels, lives and works in Prague. After expulsion from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he joined and completed the studio of intermediate confrontation by Jiří David at the Academy of Arts. He eventually returned to the Prague AVU as the head of the Painting II studio (together with Milan Mikuláštík and Aleš Zapletal). He presented his work on a number of independent and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, for example in Rome, Berlin or Marseille.

Julius Reichel is one of the most prominent middle -generation painters. He is considered to be a “hitchhiker of the Internet” - his work is often based on the experience of the acceleration of contemporary life and at the same time on image and textual shortcuts and slogans, using which we try to reduce the complexity of the world around us, comprehensibly "squeeze" into all our communication applications and tools. Which, of course, is not always successful and often creates even more chaos. Reichel's paintings play with the laws and limits of painting. Simplified symbols sometimes act as some kind of hieroglyphs of the present - seemingly simple features, but they uncover the ordinary person of algorithms, robotic communication and stormy emotions.

Julius Reichel for 100pcs

In the work selected for the 100pcs platform there is a double -headed beast, a kind of graft from a card game - or rather a mem, an emoticon? The painting comes from Reichel's latest series themes. The author also refers to the "inventor" of this icon of Harvey Ball. In 1963, he received a full $ 45 for his black-yellow buddy, who was created to motivate employees of the insurance company. He probably had no idea what would happen to his smiley at the age of the Internet, and even before him. Julius Reichel's character as if she knew it a bit. He plays with us with his "guileless" smile and bright eyes, with the open arms of our four hands welcome us in a world, which we still have no idea where it actually goes.
