Ján Vasilko (b.

Work: Repeating Forms, 2020, acrylic on canvas, 160 x 140 cm

Ján's artistic work is an unmistakable example of the legendary East Slovak "drag", which is viable and successful anywhere in the world. From the beginning it has developed the original form of geometric painting, which has undergone interesting changes over the years. All of the previous phases are connected by tireless variability in the form and color and infinitely patient diligence in the implementation of works.

The image of the "recurring forms" is thematically working with the reality of recent forced insulation, which for many has highlighted and submitted to the autoreflexion of the everyday life and repetition of the same activities, habits, behavior. "Is the monotonity synonymous with failure and limitations? otherwise

Ján Vasilko has had dozens of solo and group exhibitions in Slovakia and abroad, is a laureate of artistic awards (eg Oskár Čepan Prize, winner Strabag Artward International), represented in private and public collections.

Ján Vasilko for 100pcs

I work with the tongue of post-geometric painting, where I am influenced by various media and styles from comics, abstract paintings, minimalism to early modernism, cubism, constructivism and, last but not least, Gothic, or early Renaissance painting. In my work, these styles combine into a resulting image of a testimony of the present time and such communication with the history of art.

I painted the picture in 2020 during the Lockdown period, when we all had to be closed and could not move. And even though I had this repeating motif in my head several times before, at that moment it seemed to me that I just had to paint such a picture. When all days were basically the same or similar, some were more successful, some less, some with a larger discipline, some with smaller ones. And that's all there, in those commas.
