Rastislav Podhorský (b. 1990) graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava in 2009 - 2015 (at doc. Klaudie Kosziby and later at Prof. Daniel Fischer). In 2015 - 2021 he received a doctoral title ARTD at VŠVA. At the same time, he led the painting studio (2017 - 2021, along with Martin Špirec).

Since its beginnings, Rasťo Podhorský has been a distinctive solitaire - focused, meditative, but unmistakable intellectual. In his subtle, poetic-philosophical drawings and paintings, he works with recognizable realities almost as with old-world pictorial attributes whose bearers are lonely figures in intimately known yet strangely disturbing situations and contexts.

Podhorský is a well -known author of a young but already established generation, has had solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. He is a laureate of artistic awards (the winner of the important Slovak Painting of the Year 2015). He publishes, his dissertation ("ferryman - about people in non -exhaustion and figures in art", 2017), is also published, but is also an occasional but imaginative curator of fine art exhibitions.

"Explorer" belongs to the foothills of the foaming painting work, where it manifests itself as a sophisticated colorist and his paintings are (in his previous style) colorful, fresh to hedonic. The unique picture is really uniform for the author. The eye of the viewer, which has the opportunity to con expert on the pleasantly played composition of Gothic architecture, suddenly encounters a barbed accent of the image. Pancque enters the church? "Modern anarchist" as part of the "archaic space"? Inappropriate situation balances the shape similarity of turrets and fials with hairstyle and other protrusions of the character, in pointed is match and harmony. The heterogeneous has a common syntax - from outside the devil and maybe angelic ...

Rastislav Podhorský for 100pcs

My work is in principle figurative, and this is partly my belief. At the same time, it's something that goes beyond me. It is not basically my choice, but something that has found me as much as I found the medium of painting, which I try to deal with both in the context of its own history and in the context of some of my own ideas. Not only about painting, but also about the world we live in.

The selected work is specific in some respects and is somewhat different from my previous works. This is also due to the fact that the context in which the figure is, as well as the figure is displayed radically. Being in something like Gothic architecture, I put this work more or less into the context of partly metaphysical painting and partially flirt with the modernity of the 20th century.
