Tomáš Absolon is a well -known painter with a distinctive manuscript on the Czech art scene. Its often large -format colored canvases are mostly abstract, but there is always something to catch - they are inspired by poster aesthetics, simple symbols and signs, typography. They play with angles and scale - as if various miniature fragments around us have been enlarged so many times until the cut of reality loses the original context. Yet we can dive into it and imagine what was, or what could be around, where the shapes come from and where they lead us.

Tomáš Absolon (*1987) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of Jiří Petrbok's drawing. He also studied in the studio of the visiting teacher Florian Pumhösl and at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Jiří Černický. He exhibits his work abundantly in the Czech Republic and abroad. For example, in the Prague National Gallery or MeetFactory, the Brno Fait Gallery, but also in Brussels, Rotterdam or Mallorca. He is a laureate of the Critics Award for young painting.

Tomáš Absolon for 100pcs

For the 100pcs platform, we chose one of Absolon's latest paintings, called Man Without Qualithies II. The picture plays with the motif of the foreground and background, the character of a man whose readability compete with everything behind her. The name of the image quite clearly tells us that his leitmotif is not exactly a hero. Maybe a little like a novel man without properties is missing this person at the time in which he lives, a sense of reality. It is resigned in it. But it is not an indifference in the indifference, but rather a warning about how much we are part of the tangle of relationships and systems we call reality. We have the opportunity to be grinded or grabbed it by the hairs and actively transform it.

The word of the author:

My work is quite abstract, and although it is based on real experiences and details, this series is more narrative. The fact that in the middle of the picture is often a character that should be suppressed at the same time. The environment is more pronounced and forms the main protagonist. Attention should not be directly to him, but rather on his uncertain existence.
